About the event

Beginner Figure Drawing - Gain confidence drawing the human figure. Beginner-friendly guided class!
Gain confidence drawing the human figure in this beginner-friendly, guided drawing class. Ages 16+

Ongoing, Biweekly Sundays, 10am-12:30pm. $35.

Attendees must pre-register through this link: https://www.catalystartscollaborative.com/service-page/beginner-figure-drawing-sun-10am

Learn how to conduct a figure drawing study with a live model using vine charcoal, newsprint and drawing paper. While each standalone session will discuss basic human proportions, composition, value and form, each lesson may focus on a specific topic, including but not limited to: props, hands, face, back, lying down, drapery over figure.

Each session, we'll learn about optimal work area set-up, basic materials, and dynamic gestures and measuring techniques. As a group, we will learn from each other by sharing our work and discussing our challenges in brief critiques during breaks for our model.

Studies can be finished pieces, but most often artists use their study drawings as notes to create larger more elaborate pieces. Hiring models for specific poses to help finish a painting is standard practice, and learning to work with a model is a key first step to any fine art career. These figure drawing studies create muscle memory to draw more accurate figures without reference to allow an easier creative flow; practice makes progress!

Please bring the following with you:
- Soft vine charcoal
- Kneaded eraser
- Newsprint
- Drawing paper (18x24 is ideal)
While we encourage you to purchase and bring your own materials to class (as it means you'll be able to practice outside of class with familiar tools), we always keep extra supplies on hand just in case!

All other supplies will be provided.

If a minimum of 3 participants is not reached, class may be canceled, or replaced with a drop-in Still Life Drawing session.

Ages 16+ are welcome! Registration is $35. Register here: https://www.catalystartscollaborative.com/service-page/beginner-figure-drawing-sun-10am
