About the event

Dolly’s Coffeehouse
Dolly’s Coffeehouse

Slipstream comes to town for a guest appearance at Dolly’s Coffeehouse on June 7th. Open mic starts at 7 pm (sign-ups starting at 6:30 pm), followed by light refreshments, then the band plays from 8:10-9:00 pm.

Slipstream is an eclectic band of Maine acoustic players, featuring singers Alison Dibble (guitar, songwriting) and Linda Soukup (fiddle), David Manski (standup bass), and Greg Bjork (mandolin). David and Greg help with some of the singing too. Slipstream covers bluegrass, Classic 70s, popular, and indie-type songs from Steel Drivers, Mipso, Wailin’ Jennies, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, Peter Rowan of Old and In the Way, and others. They also include a few of Alison Dibble’s hundreds of original songs.

They have not only their music in common but their ongoing interest in natural history. Dibble is a retired ecologist (University of Maine, private consulting) and artist; she has been playing the guitar and writing songs since she was 15 years old. Soukup has been a psychotherapist, homeschool teacher, and a local real estate broker. She has experienced the myriad wonders of her husband's lifelong career as a scientist in the National Park Service. Manski was the Director of Natural Resources at Acadia National Park and continues to consult internationally. He was the original host of Bronzewound, a bluegrass music show that still can be heard on WERU community radio on Thursday evenings. Bjork has worked in aspects of forest management with the Maine Forest Service and with land trust and is now employed at The Forest Society of Maine. He plays mandolin in several other bands, upon occasion, around the state.

The Dolly Fisher Emergency Fund, founded in 2008, provides emergency fuel, food, and utility help for households on the Blue Hill Peninsula. Held downstairs in Fisher Hall, admission is by free will offering. FMI: contact 374-2891.
