On Saturday June 14th 2025 , we are inviting you to escape to Whalley Old Grammar School community centre.
The origins of schooling in Whalley date back to the late 1300s when the monks at the Abbey provided education for the sons of the local gentry.
The first schoolroom was in the North West gatehouse, probably in a former chapel. After the dissolution of the Abbey, the school was reinstated in 1548 by Edward VI and later Elizabeth I who issued Letters Patent to provide money for the stipend of a schoolmaster.
These early classes continued to meet in the North-West gatehouse of the increasingly derelict Abbey. Today, the building is home to groups as diverse as those doing art, pottery, sewing beading, patchwork, table tennis, woodwork, and yoga. We also host community use, with meetings of the Whalley Parish Council and other community bodies such as the Women’s Institute being held here.
We've partnered with Beth from The Afternoon Tea Company to provide each tarot client with a luxurious, handcrafted Afternoon Tea served by Beth herself, and you will … receive a private tarot reading with me Marie Mulcahy tarot reader and medium of over 35 years.

So the Afternoon Tea Company was established in June 2024, by me Beth! I've been a chef for 11 years now working across the Ribble Valley and Yorkshire. I opened the business with the aim of making Afternoon Tea accessible to all. My menu changes every few months to work with what's in season and to bring the freshest ingredients to you.
Available slots emailed at time of booking. Have your reading, then enjoy your afternoon tea without rushing. Weather permitting you can eat in the centre garden.
