Jerry W. Powell graduated from the Law School in 1975 and had a prolific career in the financial services sector with BBVA Compass and Cadence Bank. He also remained active in his community, serving as a board member for many organizations, including the Alabama Bankers Association, AIDS Alabama, the Public Affairs Research Council of Alabama, Magic Moments, and Housing Enterprise of Central Alabama. At the Law School, he became a member of the Law School Foundation Board of Governors following a four-year term as chairman of the Alabama Law Alumni Society, and has supported technological upgrades and the development of the business law curriculum.

Professor Pierson joined the Law School faculty in 1987. She is a recognized expert in criminal law and healthcare law, having been cited in publications like The New York Times and been asked to testify before Congress on multiple occasions. She is a prolific legal scholar as evidenced by her 10 books and over 70 academic articles. 25 years ago, she founded the Public Interest Institute, paving the way for generations of Alabama Law students to dedicate their careers to public service.

Tommy Wells graduated from the Law School in 1975 and proudly served his country as an advisor to the Pentagon in the U.S. Air Force. Following his service, he was a founding member of Maynard, Cooper & Gale, now Maynard Nexsen. He was dedicated to mentorship, philanthropy, leadership, and uplifting those around him, and was an active leader in the legal profession, the City of Birmingham, and the Alabama Law community.
