Kumbia Boruka & Chapulines Live at Future Yard
Future Yard, Birkenhead | Part of Luma Creations’ La Feria 2025
As part of this year’s La Feria Festival, Luma Creations proudly presents an unforgettable night of music and movement featuring two exceptional international acts, the explosive Kumbia Boruka and the rhythm-rich Chapulines, live at Future Yard, Birkenhead, on Saturday 4th October. Tickets are just £15, promising an exhilarating and rare opportunity to experience the electrifying spirit of contemporary Latin American music right here in Merseyside.
Kumbia Boruka, an eight-piece multicultural powerhouse based in Lyon, France, blend the heart of traditional Mexican cumbia with a fiery mix of reggae, dub, and tropical sounds. Led by Hernán Cortés, a protégé of cumbia legend Celso Piña, their performances explode with ferocity and passion. Their music channels the spirit of the migrant journey, the complexities of identity, and the joy of community. With powerful brass arrangements, hypnotic percussion, and the unmistakable pulse of the accordion, Kumbia Boruka have captivated audiences across Europe and Latin America.
Their latest tour follows the success of their albums La Vida se Vive and El Remedio, with performances across nine countries. This year, they bring with them their much-anticipated third release, Santa Suerte – a rich, rhythmic exploration of social justice, hope, and the beauty of cultural roots.
Opening the night are Chapulines, a Belgium-based band with members from Mexico, Spain, Cuba and Italy. Drawing on the diverse musical heritage of the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean, their sound fuses son jarocho, cumbia, merengue, reggae, and more into a mesmerising live performance. Their debut EP Bululú, recorded in Belgium, embodies their travelling, multicultural identity and serves as a tribute to the musical traditions they celebrate and reimagine.
Chapulines’ acoustic flair and infectious rhythms offer a modern take on folkloric sounds, with passionate vocals, jarana guitar, Cuban percussion and evocative violin melodies. Regulars on the Belgian festival circuit, they’ve also graced international stages, including London’s Latin Festival La Linea and Mexico’s southern regions.
Don’t miss this night of soul-stirring music and dancing – a true celebration of Latin American expression in all its joyful complexity.
