Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

This May, all month long, we will be celebrating the return of our annual MUSICAL MAY series at the historic Babcock Theatre with another fantastic batch of films, one of those being acclaimed director Tim Burton's 2007 gothic cult classic, SWEENEY TODD: THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET, screening Friday, May 9th! Brimming with Burton's trademark visual aesthetic and an accentuated gothic atmosphere, SWEENEY TODD is a stunning and shocking thrill ride from the 2000s that stylistically adapts the hit Broadway musical based on 19th century penny dreadfuls for the big screen, resulting in a modern cult musical favorite!
Taking place in 18th century London, the evil Judge Turpin lusts for the wife of a local barber and has him transported to Australia for a crime he did not commit. Returning to London fifteen years later as a mad man under the name Sweeney Todd, he vows revenge and begins a sinister partnership with fellow tenant Mrs. Lovett. Using his razor to dispatch customers and sending them down to Lovett for her to use in the meat pies at her business, Todd piles up quite the body count, but will not be satisfied until he disposes of Turpin!
