Almost Famous

We are very excited to announce that we will once again be putting on our annual MUSICAL MAY series at the historic Babcock Theatre all throughout the next month! We are equally excited to say that first film to be playing in our annual musical menagerie will be Cameron Crowe's marvelous 2000 rock drama, ALMOST FAMOUS, screening Friday, May 2nd in celebration of the film's 25th anniversary!
This excellent film is a time capsule of the turbulent 1970s rock culture as it shifts into a mainstream cultural juggernaut, starring a loaded cast portraying characters swept into the strange realities and misconceptions of show business! ALMOST FAMOUS is not just a great play on 70s music, but is also a strong coming of age story that sees wayward young adults experimenting in the sea of sex, drugs, and rock n roll!
It's 1973, and William Miller is a 15 year old aspiring journalist with an unabashed love for rock culture. When he manages to land a job as a journalist for Rolling Stone magazine, he is assigned to interview and document the tour of up-and-coming rock band Stillwater. On the road with the band, William is inevitably exposed to the explosive party life of 70s musicians, and he begins to partake in their parties, drugs, and intimacy while still being expected to deliver a story.
