A Woman Under the Influence (1974)

This September, the Drexel Theatre is dedicating Mondays to a director who took risks, broke rules, and created lasting portraits of raw humanity. It’s “John Cassavetes: Indie Pioneer.”

A WOMAN UNDER THE INFLUENCE: A searing and unforgettable portrait of mental illness, A Woman Under the Influence stars Cassavetes’ wife/muse Gena Rowlands as a devoted wife whose depression and anxiety begin to unravel life with her loving husband (Peter Falk) and their family. Nominated for Best Actress at the 1975 Oscars, Rowlands’ work as a woman collapsing under the weight of life stands as one the great screen performances of all-time.
