Join restaurateur Harry Posner, food writer Tannaz Sassooni, and Good Food producer Elina Shatkin for a delicious conversation on Iranian-American food and culture through the lens of Southern California's bountiful produce.
Born in LA, but raised in North London, Harry Posner began his career in medicine as a family practitioner. After taking leave to attend culinary school at Ballymaloe Cookery School, in Ireland, Posner chose to formally leap from working in hospitals to hospitality. A full circle moment brought him back to Los Angeles to open Tomat in the fall of 2024, where he serves as both executive chef and co-owner. The restaurant, event space, and urban garden are a culmination of his Persian background, showcasing his inspiration from Californian produce, and culinary influences from England, Europe, and Japan. This spring the restaurant was recognized by the vaunted Michelin Guide.
Born in Tehran to a Jewish family, Tannaz Sassooni is a Los Angeles-based food writer who has written for Food and Wine, LAist, The Forward, The Nosher, Lucky Peach, Thrillist, Zaman Collective, Zócalo Public Square, and the Ajam Media Collective. She's interested in exploring Los Angeles' global culinary landscape and interviewing moms and grandmas from Iran for a regional Iranian Jewish cookbook. You can follow her on Instagram @tannazsassooni.
Elina Shatkin is a journalist, writer and podcast producer. She currently helps produce the weekly show Good Food at KCRW. Before that, she was the Food Editor at LAist/KPCC, the Arts and Culture Editor at Los Angeles magazine, a restaurant critic for LA Weekly and a staff writer at the Los Angeles Times. She loves dogs, dark chocolate, and her dead mother's brisket.
