Visitor Center at SteelStacks
711 East 1st Street, Bethlehem, United States
Join us on the Hoover-Mason Trestle, a raised walkway four stories above ground level that lets you get up close to the Bethlehem Steel stacks & blast furnaces.
We'll start before sunset, exploring the towering structures of the old Steel Stacks along with some of the human-scale details you can only see from this unique vantage point. We'll discuss photo techniques and compositional ideas to create images that tell the story of the place and the people who worked here.
We'll shoot through golden hour, then at dusk we can take advantage of the beautiful lights on the Steel Stacks and learn how to blend them with the fading daylight, for images that juxtapose the old and the new.
We'll be very close to our subjects, so wide angle to short telephoto lenses will work well. Lenses with a large maximum aperture, ƒ/2.8 or lower, can be helpful as the sun goes down. You may want to bring a tripod to use for later in the evening, but you could leave it in your car until the last part of the shoot.
Our group will meet right in front of the Bethlehem Visitor Center, located in the SteelStacks campus area. (711 E. First St., Bethlehem, PA 18015)
Please plan to arrive a few minutes early so we can get started promptly at 6:30pm.
Rain Date: Saturday, August 30
Also check out other Workshops in Bethlehem.
