ICS is proud to present a fascinating talk on astrophysics and space with Dr. Gioia Rau.

In this talk, we will embark on a cosmic journey to explore why we are all stardust. In their final stages, evolved stars enrich the universe with the elements that form new stars, planets, the air we breathe, and even the building blocks of life itself.

Through powerful stellar winds, they shape the cosmic cycle of matter, seeding the next generation of celestial bodies. We will also dive into the search for planets beyond our solar system and the quest for habitable worlds. From the origins of the elements in our bodies to the vastness of the cosmos, this talk will reveal the beautiful cycle of stellar evolution that connects us all.

About the presenter:

Dr. Gioia Rau is an astrophysicist leader and expert in scientific leadership, strategy, and research. As Program Director at the NSF Division of Astronomical Sciences, she drives innovation in Stellar Astrophysics and at the intersection of AI applied to astrophysics, overseeing high-impact research portfolios. In her capacity at NASA GSFC, she leads multiple NASA mission concepts, shaping the future of space exploration. Dr. Rau advances strategic initiatives, fosters innovative leadership supervising graduate students, and is a sought-after speaker who passionately shares the wonders of the cosmos through impactful science outreach.
