String, Skin & Breath is a global improvisational ensemble that blends ancient traditions with contemporary expression. Featuring Misha Khalikulov (cello), Aaron Kierbel (percussion), Arslen Metouii (kanun), Daniel Riera (flute/EWI), and Adrienne Shamszad (vocals & setar), the group creates spontaneous musical journeys shaped by deep listening and collective intuition. Their sold-out debut at San Francisco’s Red Poppy Art House introduced audiences to a sound that feels both timeless and boldly original.
Drawing inspiration from Persian and North African modes, chamber music, global folk traditions, and jazz improvisation, the ensemble moves seamlessly from meditative stillness to fiery rhythmic interplay. Strings, percussion, breath, and voice intertwine in real time, forming soundscapes that are intimate, dynamic, and emotionally resonant.
Rooted in the belief that music transcends borders, String, Skin & Breath invites listeners into a shared space of exploration—where melody and rhythm evolve moment by moment and every performance becomes a singular, unrepeatable experience.
