Solo Showcase: The Silent Assassin by Algiin Ford on 5/9
About the Show:
The Silent Assassin takes you on a journey. Algiin Ford is both your narrator and the lead character, and Talib, and Bubba, in fact, all of the characters. Developed from his own experience as a recovered addict, formerly incarcerated person, and a male of color growing up in San Francisco's once culturally rich Fillmore District, The Silent Assassin addresses addiction as both a personal struggle and a broader societal challenge. Addiction is not a singular experience; it intertwines with identity, mental health, socioeconomic factors, and societal norms. I aim to create a space for reflection, healing, and transformation,
See The Silent Assassin for one-night only at the Berkeley Rep School of Theatre on May 9. Tickets are $20.
About Algiin Ford:
Algiin is a FIPPP performer. And Bay Area resident most all of his life. His creative interest were initially sparked in early recovery, when film director, Karl Francis, meeting him in an AA meeting, cast him in the film “M**der in Oakland”.
Algiin was blessed to study with the late great Jean Shelton in San Francisco. And with the legendary Larry Moss from New York City.
And he’s been blessed with the balance of a family life, owning a successful yoga school for two decades, while also acting in film, on stage, and TV.
Three years of full-time focus on caretaking for his mother during the pandemic, redirected his focus towards writing and performing his own work. After writing a half dozen plays and dozens of poems, he wrote his first full-length piece, “Tobacco, Zigzags and Gum.” “The Silent Assassin “ is a new work in development for a future presentation.
About FIPPP:
This Solo Showcase series is produced by the Formerly Incarcerated People's Performance Project (FIPPP) to celebrate longer pieces of solo performance by their Fellows. FIPPP Fellows share stories about their life experiences and FIPPP is currently the Company-in-Residence at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre. FIPPP believes that sharing the stories of those who have been formerly incarcerated will foster compassion and understanding about the circumstances that may lead to incarceration. For their audiences, the stories at FIPPP are meant to bring hope and shed light on the inhumane conditions prisoners often endure during and after incarceration. Find out more about FIPPP here.
