Solo Showcase: Jacky by Tony Cyprien on 5/17
About the Show:
Jacky. For people who were incarcerated, many suffered needlessly when they were sick or dying. Being ill is bad enough, and being incarcerated is bad enough, but through years of indifference, an extra layer of human cruelty became the norm. This is a story about the humanity inside Pr*son walls in spite of everything.
See Jacky for one-night only at the Berkeley Rep School of Theatre on May 17. Tickets are $20.
About Tony Cyprien:
Tony discovered improv in 2012 and afterwards a world opened up to him in performance art. His first time on the stage, he won a MOTH StorySlam, and from there it was the GrandSlam, and an invitation to two MOTH Mainstage Performances, and two NPR broadcasts on MOTH Radio. Tony started branching out and exploring various local theaters where he could develop solo performance pieces. He received support from Marin Shakespeare Returned Citizens Theatre Troupe (RCTT) and the Formerly Incarcerated People's Performance Project (FIPPP). The Marsh Theater offered their stage and enthusiastic audiences in both San Francisco and Berkeley. Tony also enjoys acting and his performance in “Train Stories” in 2023 earned him a nomination for Best Actor in the Bay Area from Broadway World – Regional. Tony currently is part of a two-year fellowship at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre with FIPPP. He loves to entertain and to tell impactful stories.
About FIPPP:
This Solo Showcase series is produced by the Formerly Incarcerated People's Performance Project (FIPPP) to celebrate longer pieces of solo performance by their Fellows. FIPPP Fellows share stories about their life experiences and FIPPP is currently the Company-in-Residence at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre. FIPPP believes that sharing the stories of those who have been formerly incarcerated will foster compassion and understanding about the circumstances that may lead to incarceration. For their audiences, the stories at FIPPP are meant to bring hope and shed light on the inhumane conditions prisoners often endure during and after incarceration. Find out more about FIPPP here.
