Join us to hear an empowering story of the transformation of a factory farm building - formerly filled with darkness, disease, death and despair - into a greenhouse filled with light, air, sustenance and PLANTS!
For the past two years Lex Phelan, an architect, and Seb Hoek, an industrial designer, have been working with a farmer in southeast Alabama to help transition his former CAFO buildings into hydroponic vegetable grow houses. They will share learnings from this project and the vision for developing a model that will help thousands of other farmers make this transition.
The farmer, Bill Ferguson of Riley Creek Farms, will also join via zoom to describe his experience with the poultry industry, the early success of his hydroponic lettuce operation, and his plans to expand to the other three buildings that are currently vacant.
He will also share the striking impacts he is already witnessing spreading through his community — access to healthy food, a better livelihood, a more resilient local economy and hope for a better future.
