About the event

Grateful Dead Night with Anna Elva & Friends featuring Marcus Rezak
Doors 7:30pm / Show 8pm

Get ready for a night of improvisational magic as we celebrate the songbook of the Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia Band with an all-star lineup. This Wednesday promises deep grooves, cosmic jams, and spontaneous musical exploration featuring Anna Elva, Marcus Rezak (all the way from Chicago), Scott Guberman & Murph Murphy.

Anna Elva (drums) brings dynamic energy and deep-pocket grooves to the mix, with a knack for psychedelic improvisation. Born & raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Anna is a versatile percussionist with a relentless sense of rhythm. She is known for her ability to drive a jam into uncharted territory. Anna can be found on stage with some of the Bay Area's most notable jam/improvisational rock musicians like Reed Mathis, Stu Allen, Matt Hartle, Mark Karan, Joe Craven, Scott Guberman, Jon Chi, Alex Jordan and bands such as China Dolls, American Beauties, Smokedaddies, Like a Rose, Lovin' Dead, Jenerator and many others. Anna also performs the music of Phish, Zappa and Grateful Dead across the country with Marcus Rezak. She is the proud mother to Levon and honored to be director/drum instructor at Music Time in Livermore.

Marcus Rezak is an eminent force in the world of modern guitar. He is known as a road warrior, playing over 200 headlining shows throughout the US every year, and for his prowess as a bandleader, fronting his high-octane Grateful Dead tribute Band Shred is Dead and the recently established Gumbo paying homage to Phish’s 1.0 era on an authentic 90s rig on Languedoc Guitars. He has collaborated with the likes of GRAMMY-award-winning producer Paul Nelson (Johnny Winter, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy); Kris Myers (Umphrey’s McGee), Joel Cummins (Umphrey’s McGee), Ike Willis (Frank Zappa), Arthur Barrow (Frank Zappa); Erik Lawrence (Little Feat); and countless others. Having a commanding stage presence, Rezak takes the euphoric freedom of live music and directs its path into a unique approach, fostering an environment for all collaborators to exceed their full potential in any configuration with any lineup.

Scott Guberman broke into the Grateful Dead scene at the turn of the millennium. He first gained recognition as a Hammond organist performing heavily with Rock & Roll Hall of Famer and former Grateful Dead keyboardist, Tom Constanten; and touring with Grateful Dead’s final keyboardist, Vince Welnick. Scott began playing with Phil Lesh and Friends in 2015, most notably during the re-creation shows that celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Grateful Dead. Guberman was also a member of Lesh’s band Communion. Now a staple of the Bay Area's thriving music scene, Guberman has played with just about every band and musician that’s a part of it. When not touring and playing across the U.S. with almost every professional band that plays the music of the Grateful Dead and more, Guberman tours internationally with The Gilmour Project and Live Dead and Brothers.

Murph Murtphy is an electric and upright bassist who performs with New Monsoon, Poor Man's Whiskey, Stu Allen, Brightshine and a host of other projects. While a slave to the groove, his melodic flights complement the musical conversation. Murph thrives in improvisational settings and offers to take listeners on a journey, striving to make each performance one of a kind. He realizes music does not exist in a vacuum; the audience is an active participant and crucial to the total experience.

Come lose yourself in the music, dance like nobody’s watching, and experience the spirit of the Bay Area's own Grateful Dead.
