About this Event

Creativity as a Response to Anxiety

Day-long retreat with Eve Decker & Tricia Choi
Berkeley Buddhist Monastery • Livestreamed on Zoom

Anxiety is an overflow of energy in search of direction. Drawing on the Buddha’s teaching of the Five Hindrances—specifically restlessness and worry—we will investigate how mindful calm becomes fertile ground for purposeful creativity.

Rather than presenting Buddhism as classical scripture, we will lean into its practical application for today. Calm, says the Buddha, is the antidote to anxiety; we translate that wisdom into the modern language of creative flow. Through guided meditation, brief Dharma reflections, and hands-on sessions in writing, movement, sound, and visual play you’ll practice transforming restlessness and worry into nourishment and aligned action.

The day includes periods of noble silence, small-group exploration, and ample space to harvest personal insight. Whether you pick up a pen, hum a melody, or simply breathe with intention, you’ll leave with concrete tools and a community blueprint for creative resilience.

This is a hybrid event - please attend live at the Berkeley Buddhist Monastery or on Zoom.

Dana / generosity: This retreat is offered on a donation basis. Contribute what you can; your support sustains the teachers, the Berkeley Buddhist Monastery, and future offerings.
