Beginner-Friendly Contemporary Dance Workshop 1pm - 3pm

**Workshop Description – Movement & Body Awareness**
Ahead of the show, facilitators Lea Siebrecht and Caroline Vieira will guide participants through an immersive exploration of movement and body expression.
The session aims to deepen spatial and physical awareness through exercises that tap into the power of the unconscious body and the non-verbal communication expressed through movement, emotion, and inner state. Through a series of guided improvisation exercises, participants are invited to release physical tension, connect with their authentic movement language, and embark on a path toward deeper self-awareness.
The workshop also includes a gentle introduction to contemporary dance technique and choreography. Participants will learn short choreographic phrases and technical exercises designed to stimulate body memory, coordination, and presence.
Open to all levels, this workshop provides a safe and creative space for discovering new possibilities through movement.
An Evening of Iberian Dance and Music is comprised of two distinct performances, the first, a 40-minute Portuguese modern dance performance from the Arte Total dance company, followed by an 80-minute Spanish flamenco dance produced and performed by Flamenco Arts International.
Arte Total is a contemporary dance company based in Braga, Portugal, active since 1992. Under the artistic direction of Cristina Mendanha, the company focuses on artistic creation, education, and community engagement, using dance as a tool for inclusion and cultural development. Their latest project, Clementina, is a four-year creative journey exploring gender equality and the history of feminism. Built on archival research and life stories, the performance combines contemporary dance with narrative and installation, offering a powerful, emotional, and at times ironic reflection on the inherited strength of women across generations.
Flamenco Arts International (FAI) is a women-founded, San Francisco-based 501(c)(3) organization with roots in New York City and Spain with a mission to bring people into the world of flamenco through immersive and innovative experiences that ignite the transformative power of flamenco for all. FAI creates transformative, innovative experiences that both celebrate the legacy of flamenco and explore the possibilities of the art form by combining unexpected technology with a diverse community of impassioned artists, to honor both the origins of flamenco, as well as its future.
