BAMPFA Screening of "Dan's Motel"

“Dan’s Motel” (1981) will screen Sunday, December 7, 2025 at 4:30pm at the Berkeley Art Museum & Pacific Film Archive.
Presented as part of BAMPFA’s acquisition of Jerry Ross Barrish’s three feature films—Dan’s Motel (1981), Recent Sorrows (1984), and Shuttlecock (1989)—along with the documentary Plastic Man: The Artful Life of Jerry Ross Barrish, this retrospective series, “Jerry Ross Barrish: A Life in Film and Art,” celebrates Barrish’s singular vision across independent cinema and found-object sculpture.

Join us for this special screening of Dan’s Motel, an anthology film centering on the quirky denizens of a seedy residence motel. The film is a window into a distinctly American melancholy—and the California dreamers and schemers who inhabit it.
