We invite you to a special event to hear directly from Puerto Rican independentista and former political prisoner, Alicia Rodriguez. In the 1970s, Alicia fought for independence as part of the movement to liberate Puerto Rico from U.S. colonialism. In 1980, she was arrested and convicted of seditious conspiracy. She was sentenced to 55 years in Pr*son and released after 18 years when she was granted clemency.
Today, Alicia is the director of which provides free clay classes to adults and children in Cayey, a rural town in Puerto Rico. Alicia began working with clay in Pr*son and knows firsthand its healing and therapeutic benefits to address trauma and build community.
As part of her current work, Alicia seeks answers to problems adversely impacting Puerto Rican life, especially with the island facing catastrophic hurricanes, electrical outages, crushing debt, and austerity measures rooted in the US colonial policies.
This is a wonderful opportunity for our community to learn more about current conditions in Puerto Rico and to support Alicia's work in her community. We hope you"ll join us for an inspiring conversation and to help raise funds for the Taller.
The event is free but we will be collecting donations for Taller Gauaguarey. Can’t attend but would like to support Taller Guaguarey?
