Ei turnerande utstilling i samarbeid med Nasjonalmuseet

'Skakke folkedrakter - ikkje ei draktutstilling' er ei turnerande utstilling som no har funne vegen til Hordaland kunstsenter. Den er utvikla av Nasjonalmuseet, gjennom dialog på tvers av institusjonar og fagmiljø over heile landet, og utgjer eit djupdykk i handverket og historikken knytt til bunad, kofte og folkedrakt.
I utstillinga finn ein arbeid av Rafiki, Christian Blandhoel, Márjá Karlsen, Harald Beharie, Lin Wang og Håvard Kranstad. Desse seks samtidskunstnarane vart inviterte til å utforske og utfordre draktskikkar, identitet og handverkstradisjonar. I prosessen har dei undersøkt motsetningar og gått i dialog med handverkarar og kunnskapsberarar, og skapt sine eigne uttrykk gjennom blant anna fotografi, vev, perlearbeid, porselen, installasjonar, instrument og dans. Resultatet er både ein hyllest og eit opprør - ei utstilling om drakter, som er langt frå ei draktutstilling. Verka me møter i den er framfor alt symbol og idear som formar tida me lev i, korleis me ser oss sjølv, relasjonane våre og historia vår.
Tradisjonsrike plagg som bunadar, kofter og folkedrakter kan skape sterke kjensler av tilhøyrsle og stoltheit, men også av utanforskap, skam og sinne. I botn av prosjektet 'Skakke folkedrakter', ligg spørsmålet: Korleis skal me forhalde oss til dei tradisjonelle draktane våre, når dei ikkje lenger rommar alle menneska som utgjer Noreg? Med utstillinga håpar me å formidle underkommuniserte historiar om kunst, håndverk og normbrytande liv, men også inspirere til auka oppslutning kring fagmiljø knytt til folkedraktar og tradisjonshandverk, og anerkjenne kunnskapen som allereie finst der.
FORMIDLINGSPROGRAM
Eit formidlingsprogram er utvikla for utstillinga. Det vil bli halde to kunstnarleidde helgeverkstadar, ein med Margaret Abeshu (5.-6. april) og ein med Nina Eriksson (26.-27. april). Ein Kitchen Dinner vil bli arrangert (2. mai), der Lars Korff Lofthus og Justine Nguyen, som begge var ein del av den kunstnariske leiargruppa for 'Skakke folkedrakter', er vertskap. I tillegg inviterer HKS til ein alternativ 17. mai-frukost!
TURNÉ
'Skakke folkedrakter' har turnert på kryss og tvers av Noreg og Sápmi sidan 2023. Utstillinga har tidlegare blitt vist ved Valdres Folkemuseum, Guovdageainnu gilišillju – Kautokeino bygdetun, Sunnfjord Museum, Stiklestad Nasjonale Kultursenter, Bymuseet Bodø - Nordlandsmuseet og Bomuldsfabriken Kunsthall.
Etter at den har vore på Hordaland kunstsenter skal den vidare til Hadeland Folkemuseum, Interkulturelt Museum i Oslo og Alta Museum.

A touring exhibition in collaboration with the National Museum
With works by Rafiki, Christian Blandhoel, Márjá Karlsen, Harald Beharie, Lin Wang and Håvard Kranstad
'Skakke folkedrakter' is a touring exhibition that has now found its way to Hordaland Kunstsenter. Developed by the National Museum through dialogue across institutions and professional communities throughout the country, it represents an in-depth exploration of the craftsmanship and history connected to bunad, kofte and folk costumes.
In the exhibition, you'll find works by Rafiki, Christian Blandhoel, Márjá Karlsen, Harald Beharie, Lin Wang and Håvard Kranstad. These six contemporary artists were invited to explore and challenge folk costume customs, identity and craft traditions. In their process, they have examined contradictions and engaged in dialogue with craftspeople and knowledge bearers, creating their own expressions through photography, weaving, beadwork, porcelain, installations, instruments and dance. The result is both a tribute and a rebellion - an exhibition about folk costumes that is far from a folk costume exhibition. Above all, the works we encounter in it are symbols and ideas that shape the time we live in, how we see ourselves, our relationships and our history.
Traditional garments like bunads, koftes and folk costumes can create strong feelings of belonging and pride, but also of exclusion, shame and anger. At the core of the 'Skakke folkedrakter' project lies the question: How should we relate to our traditional costumes when they no longer accommodate all the people who make up Norway? Through this exhibition, we hope to convey under-communicated stories about art, craftsmanship and norm-breaking lives, but also inspire increased support for professional communities linked to folk costumes and traditional crafts, and recognize the knowledge that already exists there.
MEDIATION PROGRAM
A mediation program has been developed for the exhibition. Two workshops will be held, one by Margaret Abeshu (April 5-6) and one by Nina Eriksson (April 26-27). A Kitchen Dinner will be arranged (May 2), where Lars Korff Lofthus and Justine Nguyen, who were both part of the artistic leadership group for 'Skakke folkedrakter', will join. In addition, HKS invites you to an alternative 17 May breakfast!
TOUR
'Skakke folkedrakter' has been touring across Norway and Sápmi since 2023. The exhibition has previously been shown at Valdres Folkemuseum, Guovdageainnu gilišillju - Kautokeino bygdetun, Sunnfjord Museum, Stiklestad Nasjonale Kultursenter, Bymuseet Bodø - Nordlandsmuseet and Bomuldsfabriken Kunsthall.
