The Emerald Coast Utilities Authority (ECUA) will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. to celebrate the re-opening of the Bayou Marcus Boardwalk, located adjacent to the Bayou Marcus Water Reclamation Facility (BMWRF) at 3050 Fayal Drive, Pensacola, FL.
The event commemorates the completion of a $4 million, 13-month restoration project that replaced and revitalized the elevated boardwalk. The enhancements support ECUA’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability while providing the public with safe access to one of the region’s most ecologically significant areas.
Speakers at the event will include Ms. Vicki Campbell, Chair of the ECUA Board; Mr. J. Bruce Woody, Executive Director of ECUA; and Ms. Tammy Thurow, President and CEO of the Perdido Key Area Chamber of Commerce.
Following the brief ceremony, members of the public and media are invited to explore the boardwalk and enjoy the natural surroundings.
The Bayou Marcus Boardwalk, which spans coastal wetlands near Perdido Bay, is part of the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail, a 2,000-mile, self-guided trail connecting nearly 500 birding and wildlife viewing sites across the state. Elevated above the Bayou Marcus Wetlands, the boardwalk gives visitors the opportunity to experience an authentic Northwest Florida wetland ecosystem, offering spectacular views and up-close encounters with native wildlife.
Visitors will find the boardwalk ramp approximately 300-yards from the parking area. From there, walkers are lead along a mile-and-a-half journey to the end of the boardwalk, making it a rewarding experience for nature lovers, bird watchers, and outdoor enthusiasts of all ages.
Additional Information:
• Free on-site parking is available
