Come join us at the Museum for June's Historic Presentation Night!
Capt. Neil Hansen began his aviation career as a pilot for the now-disappeared Teamster boss Jimmy Hoffa. In 1964, he became a pilot for Air America, a CIA proprietary airline that operated during the Vietnam War era in Southeast Asia. Capt. Hansen recounts his experiences with Air America, culminating in a harrowing escape from Cambodia in April, 1975, only hours before the murderous Khmer Rouge closed the airspace.
Neil Hansen is a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan. He began his aviation career as a pilot for Teamster boss Jimmy Hoffa. He spent more than a decade in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War era as a captain for Air America, the CIA's airline that operated in Vietnam and in Laos during the Secret War. He accumulated more than 29,000 hours flight time, 9,000 hours in a combat zone. He flew the last plane out of Cambodia literally hours before the murderous Khmer Rouge closed the airport. His writing has appeared in various publications and his book, "FLIGHT An Air America Pilot's Story of Adventure, Descent and Redemption" was published by History Publishing Company, and was awarded a bronze medal by the Military Writers' Society of America, and will be available for sale at the event.
