About the event

A Conversation with NYT writers Sam Sifton & A.O. (Tony) Scott
The long-awaited return of "The Sam & Tony Show." This was one of the most popular author events in last year's stellar line-up of speakers.

About this Event

*Edit: Please note that each donation will purchase one ticket, regardless of the donation amount. Each ticket you need requires a separate transaction. Eventbrite generates one ticket per donation, and we appreciate your understanding!

We are thrilled to host a return visit from Sam Sifton and A.O. (Tony) Scott, long-time colleagues at The New York Times, as well as good friends since their college days.

Those of you who were lucky enough to experience the "Sam and Tony Show" last summer know what a special opportunity it was to sit in on the gents' wide-ranging conversation that covered topics as diverse as the role of critics in the media, writing on deadline, how they came to write for the Times, differences between cooking professionally and cooking for family and friends, their shared love affair with the state of Maine, and a hilarious discourse on zucchinis and “quotidian carrots.”

Sam is the food editor of The New York Times, a columnist for The New York Times Magazine, and the founding editor of the Times’s Cooking section. Formerly the newspaper’s national news editor, chief restaurant critic, and culture editor, he's also the author of three cookbooks.

Tony joined The Times in 2000 as a film critic and has written more than 2,220 movie reviews and nearly 1,300 other essays, articles, and appraisals. In 2023, he moved to The New York Times Book Review where, in addition to reviewing new books, he mostly writes essays that explore the intersection of culture, history, technology, and myth

A personal note from Left Bank Books: We love hosting events like this but incur extra expenses to do so—venue rental, publicity, additional staff time, and the like. Normally, the sale of the authors' books enables us to cover costs and make a small profit. For this event, though, neither guest has a new book nor an extensive backlist. Therefore, a ticket is required for admission to this event. The cost of the ticket, however, is a "whatever you can pay" donation. By making a donation now, you'll be guaranteed a seat and we'll be able to continue bringing you special events like this one. Thank you.
