Jazz fusion—also known as jazz rock—emerged in the late 1960s, blending jazz’s complex harmonies and improvisation with the raw energy of rock, the groove of funk, and the soul of R&B. Electric pianos, synthesizers, and bass guitars joined traditional horns, creating a bold, boundary-pushing sound that redefined jazz.
