Jazz fusion—also known as jazz rock or simply fusion—emerged in the late 1960s, when musicians began blending the complex harmonies and improvisational spirit of jazz with the raw energy of rock, the groove of funk, and the soul of rhythm and blues.


As rock-influenced players entered the jazz world, electric instruments took center stage.

Traditional jazz setups gave way to electric pianos, synthesizers, and bass guitars, while brass and woodwinds like trumpet and saxophone still played key roles.

Fusion marked a bold evolution—pushing boundaries, breaking genres, and reshaping what jazz could be.
