London-based alternative band alphabet are quickly making a name for themselves with their dynamic fusion of post-punk grit and ethereal soundscapes. Formed by four close friends – Lena, Milo, Tom, and George – the group’s roots trace back to Brighton, where they first crossed paths while playing in different bands. When life led them all to leave Brighton around the same time, they reconnected in London, and alphabet was born.
Drawing inspiration from The Cure, Slowdive, and Sonic Youth, their sound is a mix of melodic yet abrasive guitars, meteoric drumming, and a balance of punchy and atmospheric vocals. Their music walks the line between urgency and dreamlike serenity, turning raw emotion into something hypnotic and powerful.Since playing their first show in late 2023, alphabet has been making waves in the UK’s alternative scene. They’ve supported acts like Our Girl, Humour, Ulrika Spacek, Traams and Splint, earning respect from the likes of Fontaines D.C. and Shame.
With over 50,000 plays on their first two self-released tracks and a sold out debut headline show, their rise has been impossible to ignore.Their debut single, “Artificial Light,” encapsulates the raw energy and connection that define their music, lyrically exploring themes of anxiety, self-doubt, and escapism. “We really wanted the song to capture the energy of our live shows whilst also demonstrating both the nuanced and direct approach we take to songwriting”Now, with their latest and most emotionally charged release, “All The Words,” alphabet refines their signature balance of tension and tranquility. The song’s restless meditation on resilience is delivered through a chorus that’s both defiant and wistful:“All the words you used to say, they feel so weak I keep spinning.”“All The Words was the first song we finished as a band where we felt we’d developed a sound. Lyrically it is about carrying on in the face of adversity, despite things feeling too much”
Their reputation as one of London’s most compelling new acts was further solidified when Crows invited them to headline a 2025 showcase of their favourite emerging bands. With a growing fanbase and a sound that continues to evolve, alphabet is proving that their momentum is only building.“We’re all close friends with long term ambitions for alphabet .We hope our music can reach as many people as possible, whether that be through playing shows or releasing new music”.
