Join us for a relaxed and friendly guided walk along the nineth section of the stunning Llwybr Llechi Eryri – the Snowdonia Slate Trail. Starting at Blaenau Ffestiniog, we’ll wind our way along the slate trail for six miles to Llan Ffestiniog, where this section ends. We will then head to Ceunant Cynfal nature reserve, to see one of the finest gorges in Britain. This narrow, deep gorge was created by the River Cynfal which descends from its source in central Eryri and becomes a raging torrent with steep cascades and waterfalls. Rhaeadr Cynfal is one of the most dramatic of these waterfalls and you can view its tumbling waters from the restored Victorian viewing platform. The oak woodland here is a remnant of a vast Celtic rainforest that once extended down the western side of Britain and Ireland.
We will then take a bus back to Blaenau Ffestiniog, which take 15 minutes and leaves every hour. The fare is approx £3 and they take cards/tap to pay.
The start of the walk is undulating/downhill the remainder of the walk is uphill. There may be boggy sections on this walk. This is moderately challenging, so we will take it slow on steep sections.
Bring comfy walking shoes/boots, a waterproof jacket and trousers (just in case!), lunch, snacks and a drink. If its a warm day, you'll also need a sunhat and suncream, and extra water (at least 2 litres). There will be an opportunity to swim on this walk so please bring swimsuit and towel if you would like to. Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome.
This walk is free for unpaid carers (people who self-define as undertaking care of a loved one with an illness or disability, no proof required), and a £5 suggested donation for non-carers who are very welcome. Please do book your space in order to attend as numbers are limited.
We will provide walking poles and swim floats free of charge.
Thanks to funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, Fund for Wales and the Alpkit Foundation.
We will cover all 86 miles of Llwybr Llechi Eryri - Snowdonia Slate Trail - walking every Thursday. Look out for further events.
