This May we will explore the ongoing role that Asian Americans have played in shaping the United States. Join us each Saturday as we screen one episode of the film series Asian Americans and discuss AAPI heritage and identities with special guest speakers.

During the Cold War years, Asian Americans are simultaneously heralded as a Model Minority, and targeted as the perpetual foreigner. It is also a time of bold ambition, as Asian Americans aspire for the first time to national political office and a coming culture-quake simmers beneath the surface.

Leialoha Kaʻula | Executive Director of KALO Hawaiian Civic Club of Oregon & SW Washington and the founder and Kumu at Ka Lei Haliʻa O Ka Lokelani, a hula school in Aloha/Hillsboro that educates on Hawaiian culture and language.

Kristen Wong | Hope parent and Human Resources practitioner whose community service includes the Oregon Buddhist Temple, SOLVE, and the Ronald McDonald House. Wong currently leads the Green Team Club and served on the DEIB Committee for three years.

Weekly Host: Jade Henness

President of the Asian Heritage Association of Yamhill County, Jade regularly gives presentations on Asian American history. She is also the Developoment Director of Hope Chinese Charter School where her two children are enrolled.
