The AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Course is a 4-week training program designed to promote responsible dog ownership and well-mannered dogs. Offered by the American Kennel Club (AKC), the CGC program is an AKC certification course that focuses on reinforcing good behavior, social skills, and obedience and demonstrates a dog's confidence.

The course typically covers 10 essential skills, including:
1. Accepting a friendly stranger
2. Sitting politely for petting
3. Appearance and grooming
4. Walking on a loose leash
5. Walking through a crowd
6. Sit, down, and stay on command
7. Coming when called
8. Reacting appropriately to another dog
9. Handling distractions confidently
10. Supervised separation from the owner

Upon passing the CGC test, dogs receive an official AKC Canine Good Citizen certificate, which is often a stepping stone to therapy or service dog certification, advanced obedience training, and responsible pet ownership. The CGC title is recognized by many landlords and insurance companies as proof of a well-behaved dog.
