Unleash your creativity in this hands-on collage poetry workshop! Through interactive and collaborative activities, you will collect and combine a variety of materials to create a unique and self-expressive visual poem. Using text and images from magazines, craft items, and your own ideas, you will explore personal expression and tap into emotions and experiences that connect you to your fellow Women of Influence. No prior art or writing experience is needed—just an open mind and a willingness to experiment! Materials will be provided. All you need to bring is your imagination!
Melissa Hudler-Gouthier is the owner of Write Well Solutions, a tutoring and assessment business that offers private instruction and workshops,focused on academic and creative writing, as well as assessment services for homeschoolers. She recently retired from Lamar University after 25 years teaching writing, literature, and ethics. While working on her PhD in Renaissance Studies, Melissa became enamored with the then emerging field of Medical and Health Humanities. Through several years of research in this field and facilitating journaling workshops for the Baptist Cancer Center and Texas Oncology, Melissa knows how impactful the regular practice of expressive writing can be on one's emotional and physical health. Her favorite form of writing is poetry, which has led to state, national and international publications. Knowing how beneficial writing poetry is to one's health, self-awareness, and voice, Melissa facilitates Calliope's Circle, a monthly creative writing workshop at The Art Studio. She is excited and honored to share the power of poetry with the wonderful women of the Southeast Texas Women of Influence group, and to enhance the writing experience with collaboration and collage-making.
As usual, our meeting is the second Thursday every month from 9:45am-11am in the parlor at the Wesley Methodist Church on major drive. The parlor is at the back of the building.
