Exhibition on display from 2 August to 11 October 2025
Curated by artist and researcher Larissa Warren, Shifting Ground delves into the rich history of women potters from Tamborine Mountain, Queensland.
Featuring a dynamic selection of artworks by twelve contemporary Australian artists, alongside a poignant collection of historical pieces by pioneering women potters from the region, the exhibition showcases the enduring legacy of this craft. All artworks are made from Tamborine Mountain’s native volcanic clays, highlighting the deep connection between place, material, and tradition.
Each artist has responded to Warren’s geographical, historical, social, and material research, bringing a contemporary perspective to this fascinating story while honouring the women who helped shape it.
Complementing historical pieces from Tamborine Mountain’s pioneering female potters, the exhibition features Larissa's work and pieces by multi-disciplinary First Nations artist Sarah Zalewski and fellow Queenslanders Nicolette Johnson, Ulrica Trulsson, Pru Morrison and Veronica Cay, along with Vicki Grima from New South Wales, Julie Pennington from the Australian Capital Territory, Yen Yen Lo and Pie Bolton from Victoria, Stephanie James-Manttan from South Australia and Jackie Masters from Western Australia.
Gallery hours: Tues-Fri 10am-4pm, Sat 10am-2pm, closed public holidays. Free entry. All welcome
