About the event

Motion Graphics and Titles Q&A with award-winning visual artist and filmmaker Adam Smith
Login to hear award-winning visual artist, filmmaker and concert visuals creator for The Chemical Brothers, Adam Smith, discussing his work and creative process and sharing insights and advice on developing a successful career.

Adam Smith is a visual artist and commercial, television drama, documentary, music video, and feature film director.

For over thirty years Adam has worked extensively with The Chemical Brothers, directing seminal music videos, designing the surreal and visionary video elements of their live shows, and directing the award-winning concert film Don’t Think.

In 2024, Adam’s ground-breaking visuals reached iconic cultural venues worldwide, including the Vegas Sphere, Royal Albert Hall, and the V&A, with his work being praised by Forbes as “a spectacular audio-visual experience”.

He has directed episodes of television series Doctor Who, Skins, Little Dorrit and World on Fire, feature film Trespass Against Us, starring Michael Fassbender and Brendan Gleeson, and acclaimed music videos for artists including The Streets.

Adam’s documentaries include an early portrait of the Grime music scene Wot Do U Call It? for Channel 4, and Ghetto on Sea following a pirate radio station for BBC Three. His commercial work includes campaigns for Nike, Adidas, and Jaguar – for which his branded short starring Damien Lewis premiered at Sundance.

His filmmaking journey began as a teenager, making visuals for raves and nightclubs in a creative collective, which he co-founded, called Vegetable Vision.

Adam will be in conversation with designer and NFTS Head of Motion Graphics and Titles, Hugo Hansell. Hugo has designed and created brand identities for film and TV companies and organisations including BBC Film, Women in Film and TV, Focus Features, the BFI, Protagonist Pictures and the British Board of Film Classification, as well as numerous film design projects. He is the course leader for the NFTS Motion Graphics and Titles MA.

Login to hear Adam discussing his work, the type of skills necessary to forge a successful career, and how the Motion Graphics and Titles MA can help people flourish in this area.
