Come to the Opening Reception of my solo show, Reading Materials. This event will be Friday the 8th at 6 pm. Regular viewing hours for the show are Mon - Sun, 9a - 5p from Aug. 1 - Sept. 30.

Show summary:
What happens when the elements of a book are separated from their original subject matter and elevated not just to communicate a story, but to be the story itself?

Laura Shabazz’s collages are designed to reflect the immersive world of the reader — where reality blurs with story, and imagination transforms flat pages into deeply personal experiences. The smaller works are most comfortably viewed up close, echoing the personal, private escape provided by a favorite book. Larger works can be viewed from a distance by more people at a time, much like how a book club collectively shares the experience of reading the same title and sharing conversation. Laura continues to explore her love of books and reading in her body of work, of which these are just a sampling.
