We are holding informal read-through of The Crucible By Arthur Millar followed by 2 audition days the following week
The Crucible is a play about witchcraft trials in 1690s Salem America . A group of girls are found dancing in the forest and are accused of witchcraft the village parents and elders are represented in the play together with visiting lawyers and clergymen .The play was written as an allegory for the MAcarthy communist trials in the USA after the second world war
CAST
The play has a very large cast of up to 20 with parts for women and men of all ages . There are a few parts for younger women who could play older children but due to the content of the play we would prefer actors with ages 16 plus
if attending for a read through or audition with an under 18 then a parent or guardian will be required to stay

Abigail Williams female 20 plus previously maid to Elizabeth Procter fired after being accused of having an affair with with John Procteer
Suzanna Walcott female teens 20s a servant girl
ann Putman female 30s plus rich socialite
Thomas Putman male 30s plus her husband
Betty Pervis female aged 10 but could be older `( see above for comment about younger actors)
Mercy lewis female 20s plus primary accuser
Mary warren Procter servant female 20-40
John Procter male 40 -60 famer
Giles Corey male 40-60
Rebecca Nurse female midwife 30-60
Reverend John Hale male 30 plus visiting witchcraft expert
Elizabeth Procter female 30 plus John wife
ezelikel Cheever male 20 plus clerk of the court
George Herwick male 20 plus town marshal
John willard male 20 plus his deputy
judge John hawthorn male 30 plus one of 2 judges at the trial
Chief judge Thomas Danforth male 40 plus the judge at the witch trial has gravitas
Unnamed young girls accused of witchcraft some may be non speaking parts but vital to the performance

Auditions
Auditions 15th and 16th may 7 pm Woodland Middle school Flitwick
Performance dates 9th 10th 11th October 2025 at TADS Theatre Toddington
Rehearsal days usually Tuesday and Thursday evenings ( to be confirmed )
You are only expected to attend one audition but are welcome to attend both
Auditions open to all you do not need to be a member to audition but will be expected to join if you are cast there will be a £20 performance fee to cover expenses if you are cast
