REHEARSALS: Mon - Thurs evenings and Sun afternoons OR evenings, beginning in late August or early September. Exact schedule based on cast availability.
PERFORMANCES (11): November 21, 22, 29, December 5, 6, 12, 13 at 8PM, and November 23, 30, December 7, 14 at 2:30PM on the Mainstage at Four County Players.
ABOUT THE SHOW:
It is December 1936, and Broadway star William Gillette, admired the world over for his leading role in the play Sherlock Holmes, has invited his fellow cast members to his Connecticut castle for a weekend of revelry. But when one of the guests is stabbed to death, the festivities in this isolated house of tricks and mirrors quickly turn dangerous. It is then up to Gillette himself, as he assumes the persona of his beloved Holmes, to track down the killer before the next victim appears. The danger and hilarity are non-stop in this whodunit by Ken Ludwig (Lend Me a Tenor, Moon Over Buffalo), set during the Christmas holidays.

I am delighted to direct Ken Ludwig's The Game’s Afoot; or Holmes for the Holidays at Four County this winter. This charming comedy-whodunit is set during a 1930s theater troupe’s Christmas party whose host has an ulterior motive for bringing his co-stars and potential conspirators together. With hidden rooms, eerie séances, and a colorful cast of characters, the play evokes the best of timeless mystery masterpieces from Agatha Christie to Patrick Barlow. Add in the eccentric real-life portrayer of Sherlock Holmes, William Gillette, a touch of Shakespeare, a savvy theater critic, and a few suspicious deaths, and you have the perfect recipe for a holiday season filled with laughter, intrigue, and suspense. Join us this winter for a “slay” ride of mystery and merriment as we strive to bring "order from chaos" and deliver a holiday experience you won’t forget.
