🎪 “Welcome back to the Circus” 🎪
On Sunday 31st August 2025, Marquee Square Heroes return to The Mill Arts Centre, Banbury to mark a significant anniversary in the history of Marillion — and one with particular resonance for this venue.
This special performance will commemorate 40 years of Misplaced Childhood, the breakthrough album that propelled Marillion into the mainstream in 1985. The band will perform the album in full, in its original running order, alongside material drawn from the Script for a Jester’s Tear, Fugazi, and Clutching at Straws eras — revisiting the sound, emotion, and atmosphere of one of progressive rock’s most commercially and artistically successful periods.
By the end of 1984, Marillion had completed extensive touring around Fugazi, and bootleg live recordings were beginning to circulate widely. EMI responded by releasing Real to Reel, a live mini-album that captured the band’s power and presence on stage and gave them breathing space to write what became their most successful studio album.
Misplaced Childhood reached No. 1 in the UK album chart and produced the enduring singles Kayleigh, Lavender, and Heart of Lothian — tracks that resonated far beyond the progressive scene, drawing new listeners in without sacrificing lyrical depth or musical ambition.
Marquee Square Heroes are made up of musicians who have worked with or alongside members of Marillion and Fish, including appearances with bands such as Twelfth Night, Credo, and Jump. Their performances are shaped by a genuine affinity for the music and a commitment to presenting it with care and authenticity.
