This September 12 in Baltimore, MD, at 2640 Space, the vibrant spirit of Odesa returns to the United States as Kommuna Lux takes the stage — bringing music that heals, unites, and refuses to be silenced.
Kommuna Lux is a band from Ukraine, blending klezmer, Balkan swing, and Ukrainian folk with streetwise Odesa charm. Their concerts feel like living rooms lit on fire — full of laughter, longing, and rhythm. The band’s repertoire includes powerful Ukrainian and Odesa folk songs, reimagined with energy and soul.
Since 2023, Kommuna Lux has toured the U.S. three times in collaboration with booking partner Cool Hat Records, performing for both Ukrainian refugees and local American audiences. Their shows offer comfort to those far from home and open a window into Ukraine’s deep, diverse culture — far beyond the context of war.
Beyond the stage, the band’s mission continues. In partnership with Cool Hat Records, they founded the nonprofit KMLX, which raises funds for those directly affected by the war — friends, neighbors, musicians, and just people they know personally. Through this work, tens of thousands of dollars have been delivered in aid. In collaboration with Rotary Club Ukraine, they recently helped fund specialized beds for burn victims in Ukrainian hospitals.
Each concert is both a celebration and a call to solidarity.
