Understanding Suquamish History and Impacts of Colonization

Lisa will help us understand effects of colonization on Suquamish language, personal names, tribal membership, defining reservations, allotment of lands. Lisa will share how the tribe is collecting elder stories and historical artifacts and safeguarding their language.

Lisa Jackson, a proud member of the Suquamish Tribe, immersed in the rich tapestry of Suquamish culture from a young age, actively engages in various cultural activities, from orchestrating Canoe Journeys to teaching weaving. With over 12 years of experience at the Clearwater Casino Resort, Lisa recently assumed the role of Director at the Squamish Museum. Her extensive background in both business and Suquamish cultural heritage uniquely positions her to blend managerial acumen with cultural sensitivity. Lisa is dedicated to enhancing the museum’s role as a custodian of tradition and a dynamic hub for cultural appreciation.
