Bucks museum in Aylesbury
Bucks Museum, located in Aylesbury, is a Grade II* listed building with a rich history spanning several centuries. The museum’s structure reflects its diverse past, having housed medieval priests, wealthy Tudor families, schoolmasters, and students. In the early 1900s, it became the residence of Dr. Baker and his family, who lived there until the 1950s. Subsequently, the building was acquired by the Bucks Archaeological Society, which transformed it into a museum dedicated to preserving and showcasing the heritage of Buckinghamshire.
Today, Bucks Museum offers visitors a journey through 200 million years of the region’s history. The museum’s galleries feature exhibits on archaeology, social history, natural history, geology, art, costumes, and photography, providing a comprehensive overview of Buckinghamshire’s cultural and natural heritage.
The museum’s building itself is a testament to the architectural and social history of the area, reflecting the various periods and functions it has served over the centuries.
