We are so excited to perform as part of EFDSS Presents at Sidmouth 2025 (Cellar bar, Kennaway House). Expect intricate arrangements of balfolk repertoire, on fiddle, clarinet, whistle and guitar as well as some original numbers!
Joining us will be Helian, a vibrant folk band from the heart of the UK. With a line-up of cello, whistle, guitar, harp and vocals, their music is a celebration of storytelling, with haunting lyrics which speak to the soul.
About Helen Gentile & Lewis Wood:
Helen Gentile & Lewis Wood (Threepenny Bit and Granny’s Attic respectively), interweave clarinet and fiddle to perform an evocative set of tunes from the balfolk canon. The duo combines the talent of two musicians who are firmly embedded into the folk music community in England, with many festival credits between them. Their material comprises traditional, contemporary and original European folk dance music, with loose, ever-evolving arrangements creating space for improvisation and showcasing the interplay between the instruments. Their first studio album, Violet Sky, was nominated for Album of the Year by Bright Young Folk.
