We are booked for Sidmouth Folk Festival 2025!
Come and join us for a chilled afternoon of balfolk dancing from 12:00 midday at The Anchor Inn, Sidmouth on Thursday 7th August. Experienced caller, Jane Bird will be there to lead you through the dances as we go along so experienced dancers and complete beginners all welcome!
As this is part of the fringe, entry to this event is TOTALLY FREE!
You can expect a mixture of scottisches, mazurkas, waltzes and maybe even some Breton dances too - just to name a few! We will be playing a variety of tunes, including many sets from our new album, Violet Sky.

About Helen Gentile & Lewis Wood:
Helen Gentile & Lewis Wood (Threepenny Bit and Granny’s Attic respectively), interweave clarinet and fiddle to perform an evocative set of tunes from the balfolk canon. The duo combines the talent of two musicians who are firmly embedded into the folk music community in England, with many festival credits between them. Their material comprises traditional, contemporary and original European folk dance music, with loose, ever-evolving arrangements creating space for improvisation and showcasing the interplay between the instruments. Their first studio album, Violet Sky, was nominated for Album of the Year by Bright Young Folk.

Jane Bird has a clear, confident calling style, which she delivers with enthusiasm, humour and a real love for sharing dances with all dancers. She offers flexibility and a repertoire of dances that suits a wide range of tastes and experience. She is one of the most in demand callers in Oxfordshire and often works further afield and has appeared at Sidmouth, Towersey, Purbeck Valley, Chippenham and White Horse Folk Festivals, Pavilion Dance South West, Knees Up Cecil Sharp, Unicorn Ceilidhs and Red Fox Ceilidhs . She is interested in inclusivity in dancing and engaging new dancers.
