The Stunt Man
45th Anniversary!
1980, 131min/color, DCP
Directed by: Richard Rush
Cast: Peter O’Toole, Steve Railsback, and Barbara Hershey
Is THE STUNT MAN an action-packed movie about the people who do the death defying jumps and crashes behind the scenes of the movies, or is it a mind-bending philosophical fiction a la Jorge Luis Borges? Can it be both? Texas’ own Steve Railsback plays a fugitive who hides out on a movie set to escape the police and finds himself assuming the identity of a missing stunt man. Peter O’Toole plays the godlike director. Barbara Hershey plays the leading lady. A completely unique work of action, comedy and deep thought with resonances of Lewis Carroll throughout.
Valerie and Her Week of Wonders
55th Anniversary!
1970, 77min/color, Digital
Directed by: Jaromil Jires
Cast: Jaroslava Schallerová, Helena Anýzová, and Petr Kopriva
From Czech New Wave auteur Jaromil Jireš comes VALERIE AND HER WEEK OF WONDERS, a dreamy Freudian fairy tale spinning a surreal tapestry of girlhood, desire, and gothic fantasy. Blurring the line between enchanting daydream and haunting nightmare, it tells of a vampire grasping for lost youth, a lecherous priest preying on innocence, and mischievous spirits flitting through a nonlinear narrative, equal parts whimsical and sinister.
