About Erik Telford:
Largely know for his work in the groups Nori and Monte Warden and the Dangerous Few, Erik Telford presents his biggish band, Asilomar, for the first time at Monk's. The night will feature original compositions and arrangements, largely inspired by Erik's upbringing in the coastal California town of Pacific Grove.
Erik has performed as a leader or sideman on four continents with artists such as Bill Berry, George Bohannan, Maria Schneider, Joshua Redman, James Williams, Jon Faddis, Wynton Marsalis, and Louie Bellson. He has been an artist at the Monterey, Montreux, North Sea, Melbourne, and Yokohama Honmoku jazz festivals.
About Stephen Bidwell:
Stephen Bidwell was born in Washington, DC, and grew up in the Virginia suburbs. Since first being handed drumsticks in the late 80s he has studied and lived in West Virginia, Pittsburgh, New Orleans, and New York but has called Austin, Texas home since 2005. Somewhere in those travels, he earned a Bachelors’s degree in classical percussion (two of them actually) and a Master’s degree in Jazz studies.
Since early 2018 he has been the drummer for the Grammy-nominated Black Pumas, a psychedelic soul group known for incendiary live shows. When not on tour with Black Pumas, Stephen plays in several diverse projects (Hard Proof, The Calm Blue Sea, Azmaris, Mood Illusion), works in any genre you can think of as a sideman and teaches lessons at his home studio.
About Elias Haslanger:
Over a 30-year career, Austin-based saxophonist and composer Elias Haslanger has earned a distinct place in jazz, drawing comparisons to Coltrane, Rollins, Webster, and Shorter. He’s performed and recorded with a wide range of artists, including Ellis Marsalis, Maynard Ferguson, Sheryl Crow, Charlie Hunter, Black Pumas, and The Temptations.
