Journey Through Time: Untold Stories To Juneteenth from Texas to Mexico

A unique ScriptHOPE gathering, we'll explore the unspoken and unheard stories of a city connected by history, but separated by borders. Nacimiento de los Negros, a small town in Mexico, continues to celebrate Juneteenth as it was a freedom destination for the enslaved fleeing along the Underground Railrooad (to the South). During this workshop, we will explore these connections of shared experiences from a divided history.

Also, visit the library anytime between June 16 - 20 for weeklong Exhibit Display of a Journey Through Time: Untold Stoires to Juneteenth from Texas to Mexico, An Exhibition curated by ScriptHOPE.

Info: Start your visit by experiencing the Exhibit in the Main Area and observing the displays around the space. The host will be available to answer questions and curiosities that may arise during this time. A very brief "docent tour" will occur shortly after 1pm.

Info: Create your own time capsule to take home, hide, and revisit a year later! You will be guided through a reflection activity that inspires you to consider what items to include in your time capsule. Some items you can include during the workshop!

Info: A mirror activity of the untold stories from history, create written letters and designs that appear unseen only to be revealed with a special solution. Take home your own creativity kit to recreate even more hidden stories magic!

Info: Flowers signify the beautiful memories of those who have passed before us. Honor the legacies of our ancestors by creating paper flowers with hidden messaging.

Info: A staple clothing item, the headwrap still adorns descendants as commemorative displays of fashion. Customize your own headwrap to adorn as an homage to the ancestors. Techniques on how to wrap the headwrap will be offered.

Info: Guests that missed the first walkthrough of the Exhibit Display have this opportunity to explore the items in the Exhibit. Additionally, this walkthrough will weave into the explanations all the activities completed during the workshop for a bonus experience.
