Bio/Statement
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Robin Gary received her Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics at UCLA eventually working in space sciences. Always side-gigging in clay and sculpture, she put her tech career aside to raise her family and make space for the move to full-time artist. She has shown her sculptures in Washington D.C, Virginia, Florida, New York, and Texas. She teaches throwing, handbuilding, sculpture, and alternative firing techniques out of Laguna Gloria, Fireseed Clay Art Studios and her studio, Creative Kilnworks, in Bastrop.
Playing with fire, form, function, sculpture and humor, Robin's wide-ranging work showcases her playfulness and techniques. As of late, her focus has been on alternative firing including raku, horsehair and saggar vessels and sculpture. Not one to linger though, she may surprise you with a piece or two in vivid color!
Demo
Robin will talk about and demo her process for creating sculptures including concept research and a variety of techniques from handbuilding, throwing and formal sculptural processes.
