CONTEXT

In partnership with the City of Austin’s Art in Public Places (AIPP) program, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) is planning an industry day for Austin and Texas-based artists to network with public art makers. The purpose of this Public Art Makers Expo is to support professional growth, career development and industry access for Austin and Central Texas-Based artists to expand their public art practice.

The City of Austin allocates 2% of construction costs for eligible capital improvement projects. Right now, the City is having a renaissance and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) is at the epicenter of the City’s growth. AUS is designing an immersive passenger experience that includes over 20 opportunities for artists and their fabricators.

Likewise, the infrastructure within the City of Austin is expanding with accelerated growth. From smart streets and corridors, EMS and Fire stations to the Austin Convention Center, cultural centers, museums, parks and related facilities, the City of Austin is launching unprecedented numbers of Art in Public Places (AIPP) opportunities for artists and their fabricators.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Exhibitors and public art professionals and makers will gather in one place to share tools, materials, technologies, and strategies that make public art possible.
