About the event

The Stories That Made Us: Workshop + Showcase, with Matías Avaca - Auckland -
The Stories That Made Us
Saturday, July 19th • 10 AM–1 PM (workshop) + 8 PM (showcase)
Hosted in Grey Lynn (exact location provided after signing up)

Our stories exist to be told.

Join us for a special one-day improvised storytelling course.
In this workshop, The Stories That Made Us, we will journey into the myths, legends, and fables that shaped us, the stories whispered to us as children and passed down through generations. We will explore the role of the narrator, the craft of storytelling, and the influence of magic realism in bringing these tales to life. Through guided exercises, we’ll uncover techniques to share these stories with authenticity and presence, ensuring they continue to be told, remembered, and reimagined. And just as our ancestors once gathered around the fire to share their stories, we’ll come together to weave our own tales, breathing new life into tradition.

Expect a day of rich creative exploration and cultural exchange—culminating in an optional friends-and-whānau showcase that evening for those who’d like to share what we’ve created.

This workshop + showcase has been selected for the 2025 Big Fork Improv Festival (Brisbane)—don’t miss this rare opportunity to experience it in Auckland.
