A MICROSCOPIC JOURNEY TO THE CENTRE OF YOUR COMPOST:
A 4-part compost & soil health course by Growing Point
July 8th, 12th, 15th and 22nd 2025, in-person & online.
Learn how to identify, understand and work hand-in-hand with microbes - the living workforce fueling plants and making mauri. Alongside three online sessions, we’ll also get dirty building a bio-complete compost pile at Dignan St Community Garden in Pt Chev.
In the four modules of this course you will:
- Get an introduction to the soil food web’s key players (bacteria, fungi, protozoa and nematodes).
- Learn how to produce high-quality, microbially diverse compost in a range of settings.
- Bring in samples of soil or compost to check out under the microscope and see the life with your very own eyes!
- Gain greater understanding about your growing system and what composting systems could best suit your context.
This course has been undertaken by many of Tāmaki Makaurau's most prolific growers and will open your eyes and senses to a new way of working with and relating to the land. Reignite your passion for life, even on the smallest scale!
