Mouth of Many Mind Creek: Gravel Parking Lot
10 Simon Lake Drive, Atlantic Highlands, United States
Join us as we scan local waters to see what lives along the edge. This event promises to be full of surprises!
We will meet in the gravel parking lot across from First Ave. Look for people in waders holding nets and buckets.
Join members of Save Coastal Wildlife Nonprofit along the Jersey Shore, as we pull a seine net along the edge of tidal waters in Sandy Hook Bay to conduct a fish survey to discover what fish, crabs, shrimps, and other sea creatures live in local waters.
Seining team members will be citizen scientists. All fishes, crabs, and other aquatic creatures will be identified, measured, and cataloged; and returned to the water.
Volunteers will also collect water temperature, salinity, and turbidity information; and document the tidal stage, and note the aquatic vegetation in the area, and interesting finds on the beach.
The catch is never the same; we may discover juvenile fish, shrimp, baby puffers or blow fish, seahorses or sometimes even tropical fish from Florida as they follow warm Gulf Stream waters northward.
The diversity of species we encounter are limitless. It all depends on what plants and animals are visiting the area we are seining at that exact time.
If you wish to go into the water, please dress to get wet. Waders or wetsuits are the preferred items to wear to get wet.
